Fingering weight, naturally hand dyed with Black Walnuts sustainably foraged from my farm in KY. I hand gather the fallen Black Walnuts and carefully remove the green outer shells for dyeing. They are immersed in a large pot of water and simmered slowly for hours. The yarn is added dry, and left to simmer on low for awhile, and then left to soak in the Black Walnut dye bath overnight, achieving a rich, chocolate Mocha color. Then the skeins are hung outdoors in the fresh air to dry thoroughly.
Each naturally dyed skein is unique with tonal variations. If I offer more than one skein in the same listing then they came from the same dye pot and will be very similar in color(s).
This yarn is 75% Fine Superwash Merino and 25% Nylon. It contains 100g and 462 yards. 7-8 stitches per inch on #1-3 needles.
Hand dyed with plant material I gather myself and are safely deposited in the compost pile when done.
Please note that naturally dyed fibers may fade, darken or change slightly over the course of their lifetime. This is part of the character and charm of organic matter products, and these fractional changes over a long period of time should not discourage you from using environmentally friendly yarns.
